Natural alpine lake located 1,756 meters above sea level, in Misurina, the highest hamlet in the municipality of Auronzo. With a perimeter of 2.6 kilometers, it is the largest lake in Cadore. On its southern shore stands the iconic Istituto Pio XII, the only center in Italy for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of childhood asthma at high altitude, permanently closed in December 2022. Born at the end of the 19th century as the Grand Hotel Misurina, it became the summer residence of the Savoy. During the Great War it hosted the Italian military command. In 1949, after the demise of the dynasty, the structure was purchased by the Diocese of Parma.
