Lake Nemi

Highlight • Lake

Seen from above, Lake Nemi is a small landscape "pearl". Seen from below it is no exception, and one realizes even more of what one of the craters of the ancient Latium Volcano must have been. To visit along the way the Museum of Roman Ships or the temple of Diana. The ascent to Genzano is challenging if you do it from the left side of the lake. Possibility to do the whole tour.

Sacred Way - Monte Cavo

Highlight • Trail

The Via Sacra is a beautiful paved road from the Roman era that climbs to the top of Monte Cavo. Today it is famous above all for the panoramic point to which it leads, called "Occhialone", from which you can enjoy a suggestive panorama that simultaneously embraces the two lakes in the area, that of Albano and that of Nemi.

This mountain was so important because on its top stood the temple of Jupiter of Latium. Every year, at the temple, the Feriae Latinae were held, great celebrations in honor of this divinity, particularly important in Lazio. The road that went up the mountain to reach this sacred place therefore took the name of Via Sacra. And this same road was also traveled by the victorious generals who celebrated their triumph: for this reason it was also known as the triumphal road.

The temple of Giove Laziale, however, was replaced in the Middle Ages by a hermitage dedicated to St. Peter. This later became a monastery and in more modern times even a hotel, where various important people seem to have stayed.

Today Monte Cavo is an important radio and television transmission center. And in fact on its top there are essentially only antennas, repeaters and various pylons.

Caffè del Carpino is a charming bar located on a panoramic terrace that offers a spectacular view of Rome. Here you can enjoy a coffee or cappuccino prepared with different variations, such as zabaglione cream, coffee cream or with cream, for a unique experience. In addition, you will find the typical products of Rocca di Papa, including the delicacies of the ancient bakery of Gnese de Rosarella. Perfect for a break dedicated to taste and beauty! Le Piaggie Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A rather scenic route, popular especially on weekends, ideal for mountain biking and gravel riding, it doesn't present any particular technical challenges. It's a great way to connect Genzano and Nemi without having to descend to lake level (which is worthwhile anyway), thus saving on elevation gain.

Palazzo Sforza-Cesarini

Highlight • Historical Site

One of the most significant monuments in Genzano, not only for its undoubted architectural value, it was designed by the Cesarini as an expression of a new civil power, playing a fundamental role in the redefinition of the urban design plan of our city, which became a noble residence, which replaced the pre-existing fortified medieval village. The view it offers over Lake Nemi is suggestive.
Palazzo Sforza Cesarini hosts a series of prestigious exhibitions inside.

The park, adjacent to the Sforza Cesarini palace, is a true homage to love. Duke Lorenzo Sforza Cesarini wanted it built for his English wife Carolina Shirley, entrusting the project to the architect Augusto Lanciani. A romantic walk among local and exotic plant essences, such as Atlantic cedars and sequoias, together with holm oaks, hornbeams, ash and laurels. The Park constitutes a historical-landscape heritage of considerable interest: it is the only English park that can be admired in the surrounding landscape.
