View of the 'Twelve Apostles' rock formation

Highlight • Natural Monument

These rocks are a scenic highlight in the Altmühltal Nature Park. From the cycle path, you can see how the impressive rock formation, the Twelve Apostles, stand vertically on the riverbank.

The rock towers are made of sponge limestone, a type of rock that weathers more slowly than the surrounding White Jura. For this reason, the Twelve Apostles have formed over the years out of the surrounding slopes and are visible today as this beautiful rock formation.

A church made of willows in the countryside. It's worth a visit. Nature and contemplation complement each other perfectly.

Willow Church Pappenheim

Highlight • Religious Site

The Willow Church in Pappenheim is an impressive structure, if you can call it that. After all, this open-air church consists only of a metal frame over which plants climb. In summer, the church is beautifully green. The plants allow the church to grow and change every year.

It was planted by the Evangelical Youth of Bavaria during the Easter holidays of 2007 and will soon celebrate its twentieth anniversary.

The Willow Church can be visited at any time and offers a lovely setting for a rest.

A truly fantastic idea, different for every season. It was created by the Protestant youth group in Bavaria.

July 14, 2024,🚴‍♀️ Wettelsheim-Solnhofen-Dollnstein, Altmühlradweg 🚴
This tour is part of the Altmühl cycle path. We cycled from Wettelsheim, which is directly on the Altmühl cycle path, to Dollnstein. The cycle path is used by many cyclists and cycle tourists. There are also an incredible number of canoes on the Altmühl, which can be rented in many places. The Mayor Müller Museum in Solnhofen, the "Twelve …

And again a stage on my Altmühltal tour. Unfortunately, my time is always in stages with breaks. But still very recommendable and beautiful every time. Today was probably a hiking day for some school classes. I have never seen so many canoes on the Altmühl.

Great tour along the Altmühl. In Solnhofen we looked at the "12 Apostles".

Today we just did a simple tour in the beautiful Altmühltal. We started from Treuchtlingen. We just went for it. And then at some point we turned around. The weather was great too.

Today we're changing campgrounds. From Eichstätt, we drive about 25 km further upriver to the Hammermühle mill. But first, we'll visit the field of figures above Eichstätt.

The Dollnstein campsite is super quiet right on the Altmühl, so you can start canoeing and kayaking directly from the campsite. We have our own kayak and will take the train upriver into the river and down to the campsite. There are also canoe rentals here, which also have a pick-up service. The river has little flow, making it suitable …
