Siebenbrunner Unterdorf Historic Site

Before being incorporated into Augsburg in July 1910, Siebenbrunn was an independent municipality. Since the village originated in the Au von Mering, it bore the official name "Meringerau". It lies between the Siebentischwald in the north and the Haunstetter Wald in the south. The village is known for its mansions with French architecture and mansard roofs.
In 1866 Albrecht Höppl built a weaving mill in the Siebenbrunner Unterdorf, also known as the colony.
In addition to agriculture, it was this factory that gave many Siebenbrunners work and bread. Between 1930 and 1950 there were up to 230 residents in the lower part of Siebenbrunn. Many of them migrated because of the poor sanitary conditions in the houses. For reasons of drinking water protection, the last inhabitants of the Siebenbrunner lower village were resettled in the 1970s and the houses were demolished. In 1978 there was nothing left of the lower village, the areas were reforested.
