View of Scharfenstein Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

We enter the forest again, the Zschopau River accompanies us for a moment, and then we climb step by step.

Continuing along the path, we look again over the village of Scharfenstein and across to the castle.

The sky has darkened again, the clouds are gray, and the sun gleams through.
There's something very special about this atmosphere.

Even if it's unfriendly and gray outside, I wish everyone a happy 1st Advent 🕯️😊.

Today, I took a loop from the Wilischthal hiking car park along the Stülpnersteig to the Teufelsnase (Devil's Nose), Scharfensteiner Kanzel (Sharpenstone Pulpit), and Scharfenstein Castle.

You need to be sure-footed for the Stülpnersteig, but it was easily manageable for me. I decided not to attempt the alpine trail up from the Alte Zschopauer. Maybe another time...

Another hike through the beautiful Zschopautal was on the agenda for today.
The weather was ideal.
Temperatures -2°C 🥶, but 🌞 and dry 👌, max. 10°C according to the forecast.
We started again from Chemnitz main station with the Erzgebirgesbahn towards Cranzahl.
Start/finish point was Scharfenstein.
