🏛️ Schorgastbrücke Wirsberg (Wernersbruck)

Wirsberg Town Hall

In September 1981, the new town hall replaced the previous Old Town Hall, which is now used by the Diakonie as an office, on the market square. It was created by converting the former schoolhouse and was designed to be modern and accessible. Since 2020, Mayor Jochen Trier (Parteilose Wählervereinigung) and his team have been steering the fortunes of the 1900-inhabitant community from here, which is a climatic health resort and known beyond Bavaria as the "wedding village".

Frohnveste (Wirsberg Gatehouse)

In 1901, the Wirsberger Torhaus with "Fronveste" on Hauptstraße, directly next to the Gatshof Hereth inn, was demolished. For 469 years, it had protected the most important traffic route through the market town and, if necessary, could also block it with a heavy wooden gate. Every stranger, every cart could be stopped and checked here. The gatehouse, built at the behest of Nuremberg burgrave Friedrich from fieldstones, also served as a residence for the lord's bailiff and as a prison. Today, the arched gallery below the town hall architecturally recalls the former gate to the market.

Old Town Hall Wirsberg

In February 1702, the first council meeting was held in the town hall on the market square, which was built the previous year.
Wirsberg was probably one of the first non-urban communities in the district to have its own town hall, a stately two-story corner building with decorative half-timbering, a gable roof, and a small town hall tower. In the 280 years from its opening until the administration moved to the New Town Hall in 1981, the building had to fulfill diverse tasks and was renovated several times. The rooms are now used by the Diakonie as offices. Incidentally, the old fire brigade bell, acquired in 1883, which was rung in case of fire or imminent danger, still hangs in the small tower today.
