All these canals are excellent ways to bike on the trails, or rather busy roads, this is another one that could help make this ride into a loop.

L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs

Highlight • Settlement

On the outskirts of Isle-sur-le-Doubs, the river splits into two arms, making part of the town an island, hence its name. With approximately 3,000 inhabitants, Isle-sur-le-Doubs offers campsites, restaurants and shops in a very pleasant setting.

This stage was a little more monotonous than the previous one. We continued to follow the Doubs to reach Montbéliard. It doesn't make you want to live there. We finally found a wilder setting along the Allan but the highlight was the exit from the EV6 to reach our campsite in Jonceray. This little tour in the territory of Belfort …

Continue parallel to the Doubs, then the canal, and finally the lock staircase.

Somehow managed to get through without rain.

Continued on the same day and ended the tour because of impending rain in the evening and the next day (flooding).

For the train connection:

Another superbly beautiful stretch on our way to the Atlantic... Great bike paths, always off the beaten track and still right next to the rivers or canals. Very, very beautiful. It's smart to bring provisions for the day; there's almost nothing directly along the route, and when you cycle into towns, you won't always find a café.

By train from Besançon to Clerval, where we started this super beautiful trip along the Doubs and the Canal du Rhone au Rhine. Perfect weather.
