Description
If you're looking for an easy, scenic gravel biking route in West Palm Beach that delivers on wildlife and natural beauty without breaking a sweat, the Owahee Trail loop from Century Village is definitely worth your time. This 14.2-mile (22.9 km) route, rated easy, features a mere 23 feet (7 metres) of elevation gain and can be completed in about 1 hour and 15 minutes, making it perfect for a relaxed outing for all skill levels.
What to expect on Owahee Trail loop from Century Village - West Palm Beach
As you pedal along the Owahee Trail, you'll find yourself immersed in the diverse landscapes of the Grassy Waters Preserve and the Solid Waste Authority's conservation area. The terrain shifts from hard-packed sand and dirt roads to crushed concrete and gravel access roads, often atop a water conservation levee. You'll pass through wetlands, pine flatwoods, and prairies, with views across a broad canal lined with cypress trees. Keep your eyes peeled for abundant wildlife, including wading birds, alligators, and even wild boars. While the physical effort is low due to the flat profile, the route's length still offers a satisfying ride for all fitness levels.
Planning your visit
This popular gravel biking route is largely flat and accessible, but be aware that during the wet season, some parts, especially within the prairies, may be submerged. Wide tires are recommended due to some sections of loose sand. There are no restrooms, drinking water, or shelters directly on the trail, so bring plenty of water, especially on warm days. Parking is available near Century Village, and the trail connects with the Apoxee Trail for extended loop options.
