Sterpo village

Highlight • Settlement

The small village of Sterpo welcomes the cyclist with the large fountain where in summer, in the cool of the trees, it is possible to drink and cool off. Through the iron door you can, from outside, take a look at the castle and the huge six hundred year old oak. Further on there is the mill with the blades still immersed in the water.

Villa Ottelio Park and the Stella River

Highlight • Historical Site

The garden and park of Villa Ottelio are located in the rural village of Ariis, near the Stella River, on land characterized by the typical “olle” of springs. To the north of the villa you can see the remains of a castle structure that probably dates back to 1266. After the construction of the fortress of Palma, the castle was dismantled and transformed into a villa.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the complex passed from the Savorgnan family to the Ottelio family who reformed it. In the park, conifer groves were planted, native and exotic essences that enriched the characteristic river vegetation.
The autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia purchased the entire complex between 1986 and 1997, granting the use of the garden and park to the Municipality of Rivignano which takes care of its maintenance and has created a series of cycle and pedestrian paths.

Villa Ottelio Savorgnan

Highlight • Historical Site

Beautiful place that deserves a complete restoration and generally better care. From here starts a nice path inside the park and other dirt roads to continue exploring the streets of the springs.

Passing to the side of the Bosco Nivai, you come to a suggestive glimpse, the narrow curve of the river Stella, in front of the villa Otellio Savorgnan.
