Solkan Footbridge

Highlight • Bridge

The famous Solkan Bridge, the world's largest masonry arched railway bridge, dominates the Soča River. This engineering masterpiece was built at the beginning of the 20th century as part of the famous Bohinj Railway (Transalpina) and still serves its purpose today. Bungee jumping is offered on the nearby road bridge in the summer. A little further downstream, this elegant pedestrian and cyclist bridge was recently built, connecting the existing cycle paths on both sides of the border.

Ruins on Sv. Valentin on Sabotin

Highlight • Historical Site

To the southeast of the Sabotin ridge rises the 535 m high peak of St. Valentin, where the restored ruins of the church complex are visible. A pilgrimage church was built at this site at the end of the 14th century, where services were held until its abolition in 1782.

The church complex, which was preserved as a skeleton until the First World War, when it was almost destroyed, still attracted many visitors. In 1947, the state border was drawn along the Sabotin ridge and the area became almost inaccessible. After Slovenia gained independence, Sabotin became an extremely popular excursion spot.
