Ascent to Col Amic

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Perhaps the most beautiful way to tackle the Grand Ballon - the small road climbs with very even and moderate 5% of Soultz to the pass and winds in many curves through mostly dense forest, which offers especially in summer welcome shade. Only shortly before the pass you come to a larger pasture and the view goes far beyond the Rhine Valley to the Black Forest. Once at the top you have the choice either to continue to the Grand Ballon (there is an information sign on the track every kilometer, how far it is to the summit), or to turn off towards Thann or Hartmannswillerkopf.
If you want to leave the track, increased caution in the lower area, here is the road in wet sometimes very slippery. The surface is otherwise good on the whole track (08/2019).

July 18, 2025,vae soultz (68) col amic/grand ballon/hartmanwillerskopf
Day 2 of the stay in Colmar! Circuit starting from Soultz Haut Rhin via the Amic pass (very beautiful shaded climb with a gentle slope up to the pass!) 7 kilometer climb to the Grand Ballon (demanding slope)! Return via the Hartmanwillerskopf memorial! (Testimony to the madness of men during the war of 14/18.) Quiet descent to Wattwiller and return …

The Grand Ballon was actually on the agenda today. After filling up the water bottles, the gear shift no longer worked. So in a small gear back to the campsite 🤨

The motorbikes are just annoying! Otherwise it's always a great tour.
