Zwönitzblick Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

The eight meter high observation tower, inaugurated on May 12, 2001, is 645 m above sea level. It lives up to its name, because when the weather is clear you can not only see the whole of Zwönitz, but also the Chemnitz heating plant. The tower, which is surrounded by green fields at the edge of the forest, was made of local wood and offers hikers a good place to rest.

Beautifully designed information point on the history of the Zwönitz-Schienberg railway line.
The old railway embankment is perfect for hiking or cycling (road bikes not suitable).

May 1, 2025,Am 1. Mai Richtung Fuchsbrunnenbrücke
125 years of the former Zwönitz-Schenkenberg railway line. To mark this anniversary, the association organized a fantastic celebration, with a train ride, a rail taxi, and many interested people were there, including the MDR (Middle German Broadcasting). The bike route along blooming meadows is worthwhile anyway, and on the way back, like every year, we passed the Wiesenmühle (meadow mill) …

Since the city train was running today, we went to Zwönitz. From the station it is a 5 km bus ride to the source of the Zwönitz river. I thought we could cycle along the Zwönitztalweg. Oh well! The road is better.
But I arrived at the "mouth" in Altchemnitz.
