It's a wonderful place to roll. Small road in the middle of nowhere. Very clear and almost no traffic. Beautiful landscape.

Lourdes Grotto Mariental (Mariengrotte)

Highlight • Religious Site

On the descent to Pottenstein (or perhaps even more so on the ascent), the Mariengrotte invites you to take a short stop to linger awhile, pause for a moment and admire nature. There is also a bench for a few more minutes.

The Schwalbenloch is a striking rock formation and cave in the idyllic Mariental valley near Pottenstein in Franconian Switzerland. It is particularly known for its impressively large portal, but does not penetrate deep into the rock. The cave entrance, with a width of about 12 meters and a height of around 5 meters, is one of the largest in the Franconian Jura. "Big mouth and nothing behind it": Despite the massive entrance, the cave is only very shallow. The floor meets the ceiling after a short distance, making deeper penetration impossible. A narrow, partly steep path leads from the valley trail up to the cave. However, this path is closed due to nature conservation. Corresponding signs are posted directly on the path and should, of course, be observed. Above the cave, there is a rock plateau with a table and bench, offering a fantastic view over the Mariental valley towards Pottenstein Castle.

The Hohenmirsberg plate is located north of Pottenstein, one of the main tourist points of the Franconian Switzerland. At 614 meters above sea level, the Hohenmirsberger Platte is one of the highest points in Franconian Switzerland and the northern Frankenalb. It owes this height to its position on the young uplifting zone, which moves from West Bohemia over the Fichtelgebirgsraum further to the southwest. A visit to the Hohenmirsberg Platte and a view from the approximately 22-meter high observation tower is a view from the roof of Frankenalb in all directions.

July 7, 2021,Fränkische Schweiz: Vom Püttlachtal zur Hohenmirsberger Platte (R-07)
Using a short-term "weather calming", we drove the tour 7 "From Püttlachtal to Hohenmirsberger Platte" (booklet "Cycling day tours"). This spontaneous decision was worth it: A very nice tour, albeit with steep climbs in places, which, when you reach the Hohenmirsberger Platte, allows for wonderful views of this great landscape - especially from the observation tower at the highest point. …
