Whiteside Pike Cairn

Highlight • Summit

Whiteside Pike was the first of 9 tops on the Bannisdale Horseshoe. We approached it from the south over good tracks which led to visible paths in the grassy hillside. Whiteside Pike has a columnar cairn that stands very proudly indeed! However, the highest point of the fell is the rock 1.5m east of the cairn.

Todd Fell

Highlight • Summit

Todd Fell was the second of nine tops on the Bannisdale Horseshoe. We approached it from Whiteside Pike, following a grassy path. At one point we wondered if we'd be able to cross the wall, but there was a handy stone stile.

Capplebarrow Summit

Highlight • Summit

Capplebarrow was the third of nine tops on the Bannisdale Horseshoe. We approached it from Todd Fell, following a grassy path. Much of the Kentmere Horseshoe is visible from the summit of Capplebarrow, including, Yoke, Ill Bell, Frostwick, Thornthwaite Crag, Shipman Knotts, Kentmere Pike and Harter Fell.

Alfred Wainwright had a habit of including 'nameless' summits in his walks for the book - The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. He simply lists them as their height feet. Despite its lack of a name, we 'bagged' this peak regardless.

White Howe Trig Point

Highlight • Monument

White Howe is the 7th summit in the Bannisdale Horseshoe. We hiked it from Long Crag which made for a pleasant gradual ascent over grassy terrain. The summit of White Howe is marked by a trig pillar.

Lamb Pasture Summit Cairn

Highlight • Summit

Lamb Pasture was the 9th and final summit of the Bannisdale Horseshoe walk from Alfred Wainwright's book - The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. In comparison to the north of the horseshoe (which was primarily boggy), this fell was firm and grassy underfoot.
