Brassington Village

Highlight • Historical Site

Brassington has many cottages that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, with Tudor House, built in 1615, being one of the oldest.
Brassington was for centuries dependent on lead mining. The rough ground to the east, west and north has the hillocks and hollows of hundreds of abandoned mines; there are also remains of the miners' buildings on some of the sites.

There is free parking and a picnic site here on the minor road out of Brassington. It's a dead-end road so quiet and the elevated position offers good views back down the dale to Brassington. If you continue up the road (on foot, no vehicle access) you get to the old Bee Nest Mine where sand was mined.

Harboro' Rocks is a dramatic outcrop of Dolomitic limestone to the north east of the village of Brassington. From its 1,243-foot (379 m) summit are excellent views over nearby Carsington Water and over dales towards Matlock. It is a popular site with rock climbers and boulderers, with over 100 graded routes.
