View of Salemertal and Heiligenberg Castle

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

There is hardly any traffic here and you can enjoy the view over the Salemertal and Heiligenberg Castle. I always find the evening atmosphere here particularly beautiful.

The catholic Martinskirche in Frickingen is one of the oldest in Linzgau and was already mentioned in 1166. It still forms the original town centre.

A beautiful barbecue area in Leustetten near Elfengrund with a small soccer field and table tennis table.

Use must be registered with Ms. Meier-Wichmann (Tel.: +49 75 54 97 417).

The barbecue area is located directly next to the Leustetten hiking car park.

Since summer 2023, there have been various swings here in addition to the soccer field and table tennis table.

The wooden bowling alley was also built by the Adler brewery and restaurant as a summer attraction at the end of the 19th century. It was particularly popular with married men on Sundays as a women-free meeting place. Regular events were held here – always combined with a hearty game of bowling. Much the same as it was until the 1960s. At that time, bowling enthusiasts increasingly began to prefer modern, fully automated year-round lanes. This marked the beginning of the first chapter in the history of the Weildorf wooden bowling alley.

The second chapter begins in 2009. The municipality acquired the wooden bowling alley and the 2,000 square meter area surrounding it. In painstaking work, the alley, including the garden restaurant, was dismantled into its individual parts. Still usable structural elements were restored, while others were recreated. On June 3, 2011, the restored bowling alley, nestled in a charming village square, was inaugurated with a grand celebration. After a long hiatus, bowling balls thundered across the wooden planks once again. Since then, a group of friends has taken care of the maintenance and operation of the facility.

The bowling alley is open to visitors during the summer months.

It is in operation for various events, and catering is also available during these times.

Salem Castle

Highlight • Castle

The extensive baroque monastery complex (built 1697-1706 by Franz Beer) with the high-Gothic Salem Minster (ca. 1285-1414) became the property of the Margraves of Baden in 1802 through secularization. Since then, the complex has borne the name "Salem Castle" and has served as the residence of the margravial family and, since 1920, as the seat of the boarding school Schule Schloss Salem. In the spring of 2009, the house of Baden sold most of the facility to the state of Baden-Württemberg.
