View of the Boberger Kiessee

Highlight • Viewpoint

Where today huge office towers stretch into the sky, a dune landscape used to stretch along the Berliner Tor to Bergedorf. A part of this landscape is still preserved. In the nature reserve Boberger Niederung between Bille and Bergedorfer Straße you can stray through Hamburg's last shifting dune.
The dune landscape was created due to the regular winds on the north bank of the former Elburstrom valley in the transition area from marsh to geest. In the 19th and 20th centuries, however, the dunes were gradually removed for building purposes and land levelling. The last part of the dune landscape was only preserved because it was not possible to agree on a sand price in 1927.
All the better, because Hamburg still has this unique landscape, which is surrounded by the vastness of the heath. The area, which is under nature protection, is a retreat for rare insects, small animals and plants. The Boberger Niederung is home to five different types of orchids as well as bird species such as the corncrake or the woodlark. Therefore, you should always be careful when entering.

Boberger Kiessee

Highlight • Lake

The Boberger See is located in the middle of the Boberger Niederung nature reserve and was created in the 1930s by sand mining. With an area of almost eight hectares and a depth of up to eleven meters, it is a popular destination for bathers and nature lovers. While the northeast shore offers a bathing beach, the southwest shore is popular with nudists. Anglers also use the gravel lake.

Boberger Dunes

Highlight • Natural Monument

Worth a visit at any time of year - the Boberger Dunes. A dune landscape in the middle of Hamburg. A nature reserve and yet plenty of space to run around and play in the sand - an El Dorado for children if the journey to the North Sea is too far. There are enough walking paths, so you don't have to destroy the beautiful heathland. There is also a gliding airfield nearby, where you can see gliders taking off when the wind is right.
