Cycling through the Heath

Highlight • Bridge

Cycling across the heath takes you right through the Hoge Kempen National Park. In this park, vast pine forests alternate with endless heathlands. Thanks to the new connection between cycle nodes 550 and 551, nature is presented to you on a platter. You cycle across the Mechelse Heide, with 700 hectares, one of the largest heathland areas in Flanders. The highlight of this route is undoubtedly the almost 300-meter-long wooden bridge, a recognizable element in the landscape. From the bridge, you have a panoramic view of the natural surroundings.

The Hoge Kempen National Park is the first and so far the only one in Belgium. It was opened in 2006 and, among other things, the pine forests and the heathland are protected here.

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A wonderful single track with short bends. It's really difficult to keep up the speed here. Quite a bit of maneuvering is required to get through the trees, stumps and roots. Very nice.

Nice route, almost completely through the forest with some quite challenging descents and climbs. Nice single trails.

Part of the tour may be closed on weekends. This is just after Walkro.

However, after crossing the rails for the second time, there is a steep descent. In my opinion, this descent is not suitable for gravel bikes and falls under the …

NP De Hoge Kempen is a great area where you can walk, MTB or gravel. I have chosen a few routes from a collection by Bram Tankink. This was a short but tough tour entirely in the National Park, literally racing through the woods.

Super nice gravel ride on the Hoge Kempen. This ride is by Bram Tankink and there is a lot of variety, from singletrack to beautiful long gravel paths. You really relax because you are also cycling a lot in the woods. Was a bit muddy, so some parts were a bit off, but highly recommended and will definitely cycle more …
