Canaletta Malgher

Highlight • River

The "Canaletta Malgher" isn't an official name, but it refers to the stretch of the Malgher Canal that flows through San Stino di Livenza, specifically the section near Via Canaletta. It's a lowland canal resembling a stream that flows through the area, with banks that remain nearly pristine in some places, before flowing into the Loncon River and then into the Lemene River. It's an area of naturalistic and tourist interest, where projects have been implemented to enhance its use and ensure low environmental impact, such as walkways, overlooks, and cycle/pedestrian paths.

Beautiful arched bridge over the Malgher canal, it is a little narrow due to the passage of several cars at the same time, but very characteristic.

In Santo Stino di Livenza, in the province of Venice, in the splendid setting of the Livenza river, is located the sanctuary dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary.
This name is original, derived from the provisions of the testator Antonio Condulmer. Today, the church is commonly called the Church of the Madonna.
The sanctuary was built in 1577, but the first construction dates back to 1525, as expressly declared in the will of Antonio Condulmer who left to his heirs the obligation to build a chapel and a convent for the Dominican friars.
In 1692 the church was destroyed due to the flooding of the Livenza river. Miraculously, the altar dedicated to the Virgin was saved.
In 1904 the sacred building was rebuilt according to a design by the architect Max Ongaro, taking on its current appearance.
Inside we can find the ancient and precious altar, the wooden statue of the Virgin of the Rosary, the Annunciation, by Giuseppe Cherubini, the stained glass windows and Christ painted on wood, by the artist Antonio Boatto.

At the Livenzetta, i.e. the dead branch of the Livenza river which flows near the centre, there is also a small port.

The point where the Livenza and Monticano rivers join. In fact, Motta di Livenza is called the city of two rivers.
