Interurban Trail Greenway

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This section of the Interurban Trail is lots of fun - you break away from streets for 15 blocks and have a wide, green park to travel through. Very quiet neighbors to the East. Bonus, some quirky art installations as well.

Ravenna Creek

Highlight • River

This stream used to run through both the Ravenna and Roosevelt neighborhoods; now it is fed by a wetland in Cowen Park and springs in Ravenna Park before flowing into nearby Lake Washington.

University Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The most efficient way to cross Lake Union on the East side of I-5. Montlake area is always under construction (2024) and can get confusing as the lanes keep switching all the time. If the bridge doesn't take too long for ships to pass underneath if it is up. Bike path is plenty wide and you feel pretty safe from the traffic. Going southbound, exiting the bridge can be a little sketchy. Often use the pedestrian walkways to get to where I am going (often need to cross over all the lanes to go east, which just isn't worth the traffic battle).

Burke-Gilman Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The grandaddy of all bike trails in Seattle. The spine of the cycle map, and a must-ride trail when visiting Seattle. This gets you in and out of the city as a commuter or a tourist. Takes you from Golden Gardens Park on Puget Sound in Ballard all the way through the Montlake Cut and up over the North end of Lake Washington, where it connects at several east side trails. A great way to start (or end) a cross-Washington bikepacking trip!

Lake City Beach

Highlight • Beach

This small beach at the end of the Northeast 130th Street is tiny, but it's a pretty cool place to take in a view of the water before continuing on with your run. The beach is about 60-foot wide and is often vacant. This is one of the best places to catch the sunrise along the water since it's facing directly east.

Burke Gilman Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Stretching for approximately 27 miles, this trail is a favorite among hikers, runners, and bikers. It winds along Lake Washington, passing through various parks, providing a diverse and visually appealing journey.

View of Floodwater Reservoir

Highlight • Viewpoint

As you make your way along the Burke-Gilman Trail, catch a glimpse of the Floodwater Reservoir. This reservoir plays a crucial role in storing water from McAleer Creek before it flows into the channel.

Perkins Downhill on Interurban Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This is a thrilling downhill to ride - the steep upper section is almost scary, but then it levels off to a smooth descant winding among the trees and next to a creek all the way down to the Burke Gilman Trail next to Lake Washington.

Of course, for every downhill there is an uphill, so... Climbing this hill is OK until you hit the steep upper section. Be prepared to breathe heavily.
