Majaceite River Trail

Highlight • Trail

It is a pleasant walk from El Bosque to Benamahoma, accompanied by the Majaceite river, which is also called the El Bosque estuary and is the habitat of the elusive otters.

January 3, 2024,Sendero "Río Majaceite"
Hi Komootler, I hiked this tour based on Udo&Ulrike's recommendation. There was a lot to see and every meter was worth it. I also took my time and searched intensively for otters. In any case, I found traces. And another little highlight. But look for yourself, almost all photos are commented. Many thanks to Udo & Ulrike.

From Zahara, we visited El Bosque. It's a charming village without many sights. However, the surrounding area is all the more beautiful. We hiked the Sendero Rio Majaceite.
It's a beautiful trail with some steep climbs and stunning rock formations, but certainly not difficult. For large parts, you walk right next to the river with its many rapids and waterfalls. …

Unfortunately, today is already my last day 😢 we hiked from El Bosque to Benamahoma and back. fantastically beautiful🥰 but not a single trout seen🤔
We have only driven through El Bosque so far, I had never seen how pretty the place is😍

Nice hike, especially the piece right next to the river.

We did this tour a few years ago and wanted to see how much water was in the river. It was pretty full 👍 but also pretty muddy 😖
Actually, it looked like picture 10 and 14 the whole time, crowds of people... but it's the weekend and the sun is shining ☀️ and everyone wants to get out.

Ideally, start in El Bosque and keep left along the Rio Majaceite. The path is ascending and sometimes slippery so more passable than descending. Make a bend at the end via the Jardin Botanica path to return .

We walked this route in June 2025. Temperature around 35 degrees.
A very nice route. Almost completely in the shade. Lovely at high temperatures. Do take plenty of water and possibly a few sandwiches. . At the start and the end you can relax and enjoy the terrace at the restaurant.

The track is really nice
But waterfall…..well, water falls 😂
