Vineyard cultivation was and is of great importance and from an ethnographic point of view it has a significant group related to this cultivation, which are its wineries. They are very old. They have masonry walls and are covered with a gabled roof made of slate slabs. There are forty-two wineries, but most are privately owned.
In the wineries there is still a fountain called the Frades (friars' fountain). It is no coincidence that San Mamede is celebrated in Vilachá as in the Montederramo mountain range. The riverbank was chosen by the monks for the cultivation of vines due to its microclimate. Apparently, on the way down to the Sil River there was a monastery that was formed when the hermits who lived along the river joined together until it was incorporated into Montederramo.
