Highlight • Monument

The largest penitential cross in Europe. Its height is 2.77 meters (and still a meter underground). It was made on site from Gotlandic limestone. It weighs about two tons. The front is decorated with a sculpture of Christ crucified and a German Gothic inscription: "God be gracious to Hans Billeke, year 1542".

Currently, it is a neo-Gothic tunnel, under which there is a street, so you can reach it only from the top - along Słowicza Avenue, or along ul. St. John the Baptist from a distance of about 10 meters.
The Świętojańska Gate (also known as the Szczecin Gate) was erected in the 50s of the 15th century and was originally preceded by a foregate with a drawbridge, a throat and an internal gate. She defended access to the city from the side of Szczecin.
Before 1720, the earth and water fortifications in front of the gate were dismantled by Prince Moritz von Anhalt Dessau. He located there a training ground for the army.
From 1721, the superstructure of the gate served as a penitentiary, while from 1820 there was an institution for the mentally ill.
Later, in 1842, the gate was completely pulled down and a pointed tunnel was built in its place. Currently, the remains of the gate, or rather a foregate, can be seen from the street and from its top, because Słowicza Avenue runs there. The tunnel runs along ul. st. Jana street and there is no pedestrian crossing under it.

White Barracks Stargard

Highlight • Historical Site

the colloquial name of the barracks complex located in Stargard at 37 Soldier Avenue. The complex was erected in the 1930s for Wehrmacht soldiers. The construction of the barracks was part of the all-German reorganization of the armed forces, which was undertaken in 1934. In 1938, separate subunits of the 25th Infantry Regiment (Infanterie Regiment 25) were accommodated in the barracks. At that time, Stargard was located in the Second Military District of the Wehrmacht, whose headquarters was in Szczecin. The name of the barracks comes from the light color of the plaster, to distinguish it from the "red barracks". The complex includes 10 barracks buildings and 7 accompanying facilities

Stargaard is worth a trip. Anyone who follows the traces of the past and looks for it will definitely find what they are looking for. Definitely a visit to the Staargard Cathedral, you can climb the tower (not for the timid) but get a fantastic view over the city. The town hall is worth seeing as are various older houses.

Basteja by the Prisoners' Tower in Stargard

Highlight • Historical Site

a fortification building located in the south-eastern part of the Old Town, on the Ina riverbed between the Prisoners' Tower and the New Gate, at today's ul. Watchtower. Today it is partially preserved as a protected ruin. Basteja, St. Mary's collegiate church and other defensive walls were declared a monument of history by the regulation of the President of the Republic of Poland of September 17, 2010.
Basteja was built in the third phase of erecting defensive walls in the second half of the 16th century. It was built as a two-story building with numerous arrowslits. From the town side, it was closed with a straight wall with an entrance portal and windows. In its form, it referred to the Bastei at the Weavers' Tower.

Strachocin Stone Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The most valuable historic building in the village is a stone church built at the end of the 13th century, destroyed after 1945, rebuilt in 1992-2003 thanks to the efforts of the villagers and engineer. Zdzisław Kosikowski, as well as with the support of the former German inhabitants of this town. The hall church, measuring 11.1 x 20.1 m, is covered with tiles and has a turret above it. The western portal with three-step jambs has signs placed by the builders: on the left side, a poorly readable chessboard carved on a granite square, and on the right side, a Joannite cross in the outline of a circle. At the church square, stone walls have been partially preserved.
The church has survived several cataclysms in its history. Most likely it was destroyed during the 30-year war in the 17th century, rebuilt in the 18th century, and underwent a thorough renovation in the 19th century. At that time, the windows and the southern portal were rebuilt - they were enlarged and given ogival forms. After 1945, the church was devastated and its furnishings plundered; only the perimeter walls and gables remain. The end of the 20th century turned out to be kind to this valuable monument - the damage done was repaired and the temple regained its due rank as the most important building in the village.
