From the Tracciolino you have a view of Val Chiavenna and Lake Mezzola. Beware of bicycles as it is also a path for MTB.

Tracciolino Trail

Highlight • Trail

Beautiful path obtained from a now disused railway line for local use that connected the dams at high altitude for the works and the transport of people. Highly panoramic with very suggestive glimpses of the valley

Panoramic View of Lake Mezzola

Highlight • Viewpoint

As of July 2026
The trail is walkable and rideable for approx. 5 km, and also permitted. After that, the path is closed, and you have to ride back the same way. But that doesn't matter. I found the route great.

Moledana Dam

Highlight • Monument

Lake Moledana is located above Verceia, at the beginning of the Valle dei Ratti, at the eastern end of the Tracciolino.
The Path of the Tracciolino, about 10 kilometers long, runs at a constant height of 912 meters between the Val dei Ratti and Val Codera.
It was built in the 1930s to connect two dams via a narrow gauge train. The eastern section from the Moledana dam to San Giorgio is the most spectacular with various tunnels, bridges and sections carved into the rock.

The Tracciolino was a railway line that connected two dams (Val Codera and Val dei Ratti), no longer in use now it is a mere tourist destination.
To reach the beginning of the path you have to be careful, because you can easily go wrong. In fact, we had to go back and resume the correct path.
N.B .: Once …

Very nice, but also quite strenuous round above Novate Mezzola. We cheated our way through two closed sections. A bit adventurous, but we weren't the only ones either. In any case, it was worth it, great views, dark tunnels, a former railway line, enchanted forests and old villages.

Even though komoot had some problems with my GPS, it was only 14.5 km and 530 m of up and down, this was my longest hike since breaking my leg.
