The journey by 🚌 to Porto Venere from La Spezia Centrale train station was quite interesting, as it led for miles past military forts of the Italian Navy on the Gulf of La Spezia. We also saw the large warships moored there.

From Porto Venere, we took a small ferry to the island of Palmaria.

The Giro Isola was definitely worth the effort - the climbs were tough, the sun is beating down from above, the surroundings offer a great view after every second turn. The boat trip was worth it for that :)
