Megálo Vounó

Highlight • Summit

The Megálo Vounó (the "Great Mountain") is a striking hill area in the south of the island, which is particularly characteristic of the village of Lithakia.

The Megalo Vouno towers over the village of Lithakia on the southeast coast. It forms the backdrop for this place, which is one of the oldest villages on the island.

It reaches a height of about 582 meters. It is therefore among the higher elevations on the island, after peaks such as Voyni (756 m).

The slopes are characterized by dense pine forests and extensive olive groves.

Kólla

Highlight • Summit

A viewpoint in the mountains, often used as a starting point or intermediate stop for hikes in the region.

A hike from the village to the viewpoint takes about 15-20 minutes. The path leads through the typical hilly landscape of the island with olive groves and rock formations.

Near Kólla, several hiking trails branch off, leading deeper into the mountain region or to remote chapels.

Ákra Katastári

Highlight • Viewpoint

Cape Katastari (Greek: Ákra Katastári) is a prominent headland on the northeast coast. It is located directly by the village of Katastari, the largest village on the island by area. The village itself lies about 2 km inland at the foot of the Vrachionas Mountains. It is known for its traditional architecture and the hospitality of its inhabitants. Part of the village (the "small village") lies higher up on the mountain and shows ruins left behind after the earthquake of 1953. Every year on August 15th, a large festival is held in honor of the Assumption of Mary with music, dance, and traditional food.
