Pilcza Castle

Highlight • Castle

Pilcza Castle in Smoleń is a picturesque ruin of a medieval stronghold located on a hill among the forests of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Although only fragments of walls and a tower have survived, the viewing point offers a beautiful panorama of the area. It is a peaceful place, ideal for a break during a bicycle trip through the Jura, especially since the castle is located near popular trails (Eagle's Nests Trail, Jura Fortresses Trail). Next to the ruins you will also find information boards and a place to rest.

View of Pilcza Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

Zamek Pilcza is the name of the castle. But it is in Smoleń. And this confusion had consequences for me: I missed the stately palace "Pałac w Pilicy", which is actually in Pilica. Pilica, Pilcza and then "Pałac w Pilicy". The latter, by the way, is grammatically correct in Polish; "w" = in requires the locative in Polish that we do not know. And that leads to the fact that the Polish is not powerful, thinks it is a different city. Although I used most of the Polish names for palace (Pałac) and castle or palace (Zamek), I didn't put the place name in the locative. The Poles may forgive me for this mistake, but it enables the German to recognize in which place the castle is located. And a Pole also recognizes it despite the wrong grammar. And why the Polish place names, even if there are German ones: Because they are essential for driving off-road. There are no German place-name signs, with the exception of the areas in which the German minority lives in Silesia!
