Ruins of Walhain Castle

Highlight • Castle

This ruin is a beautiful and rare example of a circular or cylindrical keep from the 13th century. It was cylindrical in shape like the keep of Zichem (the Maiden's Tower) to deflect bullets. Inside, however, such a tower is difficult to set up
and that's why they weren't built much like this.
The entrance was on the first floor so that in the event of an attack, the wooden
ladder could be pulled in.
At the front you can still clearly see the remains of the former moat.

Notre-Dame de Walhain Church

Highlight • Religious Site

It is a beautiful modern building with a triumphal cross in fleurdelysée carved oak with a height of 2 m63; the four branches bear the emblems of the four evangelists. It dates from around 1540. Two copper processional lanterns, 18th century. A god of mercy in oak from the 16th century. Along the church lie two tombstones.

Walhain

Highlight • Settlement

The commune of Walhain extends between two ancient Roman roads: to the south, the Chaussée Brunehaut and to the north the Via Gallia Belgica, which in the Middle Ages would become a section of the road to Saint Jacques de Compostela.
