"ROB AND ROBIN PARKING ARTWORK AT MOLS PARKING"

Many Blind Walls can already be found at the Mols Parking, by both local and international artists, but there was plenty of room for another mural. Rob van den Belt and Robin van Gurp look out on this wall from their design studio and were immediately enthusiastic when we asked them to make a design.

The design is based on a story by Annie van Gils, who has lived next door to the Mols Parking for more than 60 years. In its early years, the many companies and crafts that were located on and around this place, provided an almost constant flow of suppliers and delivery vehicles. Annie and her peers were therefore not allowed to play outside in the neighborhood, and so she was forced to play with her siblings in the backyard that was only a few tiles in size.

Although Mols Parking has undergone significant changes, today it is still a busy place with many cars and little room for play. Although a game of tennis is regularly played by students living nearby.

Rob and Robin managed to capture the tight space, crowds and automobiles in a striking image that clearly refers to children playing. The mural also includes an animation that can be seen through Augmented Reality during our (walking) tours.

BICYCLES AND HORSES

There used to be a horse stable on the spot of the bicycle shed where Ilse Weisfelt made her mural. Hence a playful mix of past and present, with a rider on a bicycle and a cyclist on a horse.

"IT WILL ALL COME GOOD, IF NOT YET"

Our murals are mostly inspired by historical events in Breda. During the making of this painting (March / April 2020) we find ourselves in such a historic event: the worldwide corona outbreak that has drastically changed our lives. To support the whole of Breda, we asked Tom Onrust to paint a painting on the former shopping center De Lunet. A painting of which we will tell the story long after the COVID-19 crisis.

Tom Onrust made the design together with Wouter van der Giessen. The wise words "It will all be fine, if not then at all" Wouter received from his parents. The message is depicted on hand soap pumps, a reference to the many hand washing that we now do in the fight against the virus, but also to De Lunet's past. The pumps are in fact depicted as advertising brochures.

De Lunet was built in the 1960s and was perhaps the first concept supermarket in the Netherlands (the Nettomarkt). In the 1980s, the building was renamed Shopping Center de Lunet, a unique project at that time: food and non-food products under one roof.

In 2013, the Stada Stores opened a few kilometers away. Many stores located in De Lunet opened a second branch in the Stada Stores and this led to an exodus in De Lunet. The building has been vacant since 2016 and has become an eyesore for many people.

The painting was created in collaboration with the painting company Rob Vlemmix, he picked up the brush in his spare time to restore De Lunet from the outside. Just like Rob, we have the mission to make the city more beautiful and the painting by Tom and Wouter certainly contributes to this.
