The Basilica di San Vittore is not just any church. The Basilica di San Vittore is truly one of the most significant religious sites on the entire Lake Maggiore. The history of the basilica began in the early 17th century. At that time, a temple stood on the site, which was gradually replaced by the new church. A milestone in the construction of the basilica was the completion of the spacious nave, with three chapels built along its two sides. Although construction of the façade was not yet completely finished in 1752, the church was consecrated that year. In fact, it took several more decades before the porch and current façade were completed around 1820. The dome was built in its current form almost 70 years later, around 1889.
