Red Haubarg

Highlight • Historical Site

The name "Roter Haubarg" (Red Haubarg) is puzzling at first glance. The color red is nowhere to be found. White-plastered and topped with a massive thatched roof, the farmhouse stands visible from afar across the marsh. The first Roter Haubarg had a red tile roof. After a fire in 1759, the building was rebuilt and thatched. The color changed, but the name remained.

Built in 1684, the farmhouse is an impressive example of the lifestyle of the marshland farmers from the region and a testament to their former wealth. Stables, a central hall, living rooms, and bedrooms were arranged around the square base of the house. Hay was piled high beneath its roof, which is over 20 meters high.

Today, the Roter Haubarg is a restaurant and café, as well as part of the Eiderstedt Local History Museum. In the adjacent agricultural museum, visitors are given a comprehensive impression of the daily life of the inhabitants during the heyday of the large Haubarg farmhouses. And those who wish can even get married in the Haubarg.

The Red Haubarg is the only Haubarg open to the public.

It belongs to the Asmussen-Woldsen legacy.

In front of the Red Haubarg, as part of the "Blooming Eiderstedt" project, a 1,200-square-meter wildflower meadow was created, which, in addition to bumblebees, bees, and butterflies, also delights the human eye with its vibrant colors.

To drive so nicely through the North Frisian landscape. Had luck with the weather, 23 degrees and little wind. On the way grazing with sheep, cows, goats! Such a quiet landscape, pure relaxation !!

Wester-Spätinge Nature Reserve

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

The Wester-Spätinge Nature Reserve (size 27 ha) in the district of Nordfriesland, which has been in existence since 1978, serves to protect a coastal, brackish wetland with swampy and aquatic areas as well as salt-loving plant communities. The nature reserve is breeding, resting and feeding area of a species-rich bird life as well as habitat of the invertebrates of this landscape.
history
The Wester late arrivals are already mentioned in the 16th century. Here, the farmers of the area have taken over the years the material for the dike construction, i. "Abgespatet". From this activity, the area name derives. From an old silted arm of Hever developed over time a marshland, an ideal habitat for rare animals and plants. Originally a brackish water wetland, sweetened after the dyke reinforcement in 1962, the Wester-late rings increasingly. This changed the plant and bird life. Salt-loving plants such as the Queller and the Strandaster disappeared increasingly, for reeds populated wide areas. Reetdachhaus Haubarg-Kieker

Highlight • Structure

The Haubarg-Kieker thatched-roof house is a lovingly renovated, typical thatched-roof house from the North Frisian coastal region. The holiday home is quietly located in Simonsberg near Husum, just a few minutes from the dike. Ideal for cycling, hiking, and dog-walking tours through the Wadden Sea foreland.

It's a starting point for tours to the Hamburger Hallig, Nordstrand, the Westerhever Lighthouse, Sankt Peter-Ording, island hopping, and many other excursions. Perfect for nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet, with or without dogs.
