Helbling House

Highlight • Monument

Beautiful house facade at the golden roof in Innsbruck
The many colorful town houses are part of the beautiful ensemble of Innsbruck's old town. The Helblinghaus is particularly ornate and striking, right next to Innsbruck's most popular attraction - the golden roof.

Innsbruck Town Tower

Highlight • Monument

Innsbruck City Tower - Distinctive 15th-century watchtower
Look out over Innsbruck's rooftops like the watchmen of the Middle Ages did. For almost 450 years, they kept watch from the City Tower, warning citizens of fire and other dangers. The lower floors served as a prison. Visitors climb 133 steps to the 31-meter-high viewing platform. And not only can you see medieval alleyways, but also the Bergisel, Patscherkofel, the Inn, and the Nordkette mountains.
Distinctive 15th-century watchtower with a viewing platform and a copper-roofed onion dome.

The Innsbruck pedestrian zone, known as Maria-Theresien-Straße, is a lively promenade in the heart of Innsbruck. It is surrounded by historic buildings and an impressive mountain panorama, ideal for strolling, shopping and lingering. The boulevard, named after Empress Maria Theresa, stretches from the Golden Roof to the Triumphal Arch and forms the center of the old town. Numerous shops, from international fashion chains to traditional Tyrolean boutiques, offer a wide range of products.

Innsbruck Old Town

Highlight • Settlement

Innsbruck Old Town – Capital of Tyrol
Innsbruck's Old Town is the heart of the Tyrolean capital. Narrow streets, magnificent town houses, and important architectural monuments such as the Golden Roof, the Helblinghaus, the Imperial Palace, and the Hofkirche (Court Church) characterize the cityscape. The Old Town combines Gothic, Baroque, and modern elements in a small space. Numerous cafés, boutiques, and traditional shops enliven the pedestrian zone. The surrounding mountains form a breathtaking backdrop. You can ski, hike, climb, and mountain bike from the city.
Innsbruck is a city that never ceases to fascinate me – it combines the best of nature and urbanity. Here you'll find impressive mountain landscapes and urban flair. Right in the heart of the city lies the Old Town, with its historic buildings such as the Golden Roof and the Hofburg Palace. Innsbruck's city center is a blend of the charm of bygone imperial times, modern architecture, and the Alpine joie de vivre of the Alps. That's certainly how the city appears to me. It's not without reason that it's considered one of the most beautiful cities in Austria. Be inspired by my impressions of Innsbruck's Old Town, the magnificent sights, and other beautiful things to see here on this website. I've lived here for a long time and have seen a lot. Benefit from my firsthand tips. My personal highlight is also the city's highest attraction – the Top of Innsbruck.

Triumphal Arch, Innsbruck

Highlight • Monument

A Roman-inspired triumphal arch surrounded by modern city life and timelessly imposing mountains: The Triumphpforte is one of the most striking sights in Innsbruck. Like a triumphal arch of antiquity, it testifies to Innsbruck's history. But she is not that old. The baroque building was built by order of Maria Theresia in the 18th century.

At that time the Empress was planning the wedding of her son Archduke Leopold in Innsbruck. Numerous changes in the cityscape go to the account of the imperial "wedding planner". For example, the medieval city gate at the entrance to Innsbruck's old town was demolished. From his stones a triumphal arch was built.

The portal of triumph is reminiscent of a joyous and a tragic event. The south side remains true to the wedding motto. But during the celebrations lasting several days, a stroke of fate befell Empress Maria Theresa. Her husband and father of the groom died, the regent fell into deep mourning. The north side of the portal of triumph therefore shows mourning motives to commemorate the sudden death of the emperor.

Bergisel Ski Jump and Tower

Highlight • Monument

Bergisel ski jump tower
Opened September 14, 2002
March 25, 2001:
After countless project and financing discussions carried out in advance, with the great personal commitment of the then ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel, manual construction work could begin in March 2001. On March 25, 2001 the old ski jump tower was spectacularly blown up. The Brenner motorway in the immediate area and the rail systems made the demolition a complicated project, but in the end there was no damage to either transport route.
04.01.2002:
Despite numerous doubts and the ever-increasing media pressure, those responsible managed to make the new ski jump ready for jumping in time for the 50th Bergisel ski jump. The first victory on the new Bergiselschanze was taken by the German Sven Hannawald, who was able to win all four competitions in the legendary jumping series for the first time in history during this tour. For safety reasons, the stadium could not be completely filled, but there were still 22,000 fans in the stadium.
