Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstraße
In the rear Ötztal, the Alps feature a "secret gap" – the Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstraße. The road pass at 2,474 m has presumably been an important connecting axis between North and South since the Stone Age. Today, excursionists no longer have to trudge laboriously over the pass, but can cruise by car or motorcycle on the Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstraße from Obergurgl into the South Tyrolean Passeiertal valley. The highest pass crossing in the Eastern Alps opens up spectacular views of the high alpine nature for travellers – and marks the unique Timmelsjoch experience with 6 adventure stations.
The road is open. Opening hours: daily from 07:00-20:00.

Timmelsjoch Pass (Passo Rombo)

Highlight • Mountain Pass

It's truly spectacular to cycle through this area. It also coincides with a section where the slope is gentler, allowing you to enjoy the scenery even more.
Well... both sides of the Passo Rombo are truly spectacular and offer wonderful views.

Bridge over the Gurgler Ache

Highlight • Bridge

In spring, the babbling brook is often the raging mountain river. Blame is the snowmelt. Especially happy are the kayakers, who have some action here. Maybe you are lucky and can observe a few.

Highlight • Monument

Auguste Piccard had to make an emergency landing with his balloon on the Obergurgl glacier in 1931. The Piccard Bridge can be found very close to this point today (komoot.de/highlight/305458). The sphere next to the stylized bust is modeled on the capsule of the stratospheric balloon.
