View of Vienna from the Kahlenberg Vineyards

Simply a nice round when it is too boggy on the single trail. Gradients of up to 13 percent are quite crisp. Beware of pedestrians when climbing the Beethovenweg. It's not for crazy downhillers, more for connoisseurs. Those who want it tougher can take this tour up to the Agnesbründl and the South Tyrolean MTB route. All in all, a good introduction to cycling.

Krapfenwaldl Uphill

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

One of the coolest climbs in the area. Ideal approach e.g. from Nussdorfer Platz, through the vineyards at the Wildgrube, and then the steeper Krapfenwald-Uphill (partly shady forest, partly almost a mountain path). Many hikers come here on weekends. Uphill only!

This is the key point on the Sleeping Beauty Trail! If you drive that way, others thought so too and blocked the shortcut.

View of Vienna from the Kahlenberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

There is always something going on! But the view over Vienna makes up for the sometimes short wait for a good photo spot. Immediately next to it, there is the possibility of a refreshment in the café. After a long day at work there is something about sitting here with a drink and letting the city at the foot of the mountain be a city.

At the highest point of the tour you can stop off and refresh yourself at the Jägerwiese or a little further down at the Gasthaus Grias di a Gott. On nice days you meet some mountain bikers here.

Cozy sections of the route with little traffic, but that will probably be different this weekend. There's a low density of battery-powered bikes, they're probably still charging. 🪫
Parts of it are part of Vienna Hiking Trail 1, very idyllic.
Great views of Vienna, of course. I especially love the feeling of "approaching" Vienna on the downhill! ❤️

It rained again during the night, so I had a spontaneous change of plans. Bomb Crater and Stormtrooper were good choices for the slippery conditions. The climb up Vogelsangberg was easy today. Let's see how I do with the other choice today!

Partly off-road route, which is quite easy to drive even in wet conditions.

Continental Dubnital (front) and Race King (rear) rock! 🥳 Fly over asphalt despite the high profile!

First test drive with an XC tire variant that I had been thinking about for a long time. Although it is 100g heavier on asphalt on the flat, the Mezcal is a touch better than the Race King (not when braking) and than the Barzo anyway. Front tire is leaking a bit, I'll have to keep an eye on that...

Admittedly, the conditions were perfect, but I was still able to prove to myself today that the switchback entry is manageable even with XC tires, as long as the weight distribution on the wheels is right. On the Sauberg Trail, I had a nice chat with the owner of a very sweet, unleashed, and unmuzzled dog (she wanted to know …

Mounted the trail tires again and everything went much more comfortably! Unfortunately had to cancel at short notice otherwise the Schoenstatt Trail would still have been there! Just not enough time for that at the moment...

Surprisingly demanding, although we did a good job of hiking in the mountains while on vacation. Possible explanations: the cycling break was too long or the racing cyclist is to blame for brutally leaving me standing uphill in Cobenzlstraße. To explain: there are usually no colleagues there, especially not those who make me look so old... 😂
