St. Oswald Chapel (Meran 2000)

Highlight • Religious Site

The St. Oswaldkapelle is located at 2,365 meters in the hiking and skiing area Merano 2000. Already in the 15th century is reported by a shrine or a chapel to St. Oswald in said place.

In 1641, the farmers of Hafling vowed to build a chapel at the foot of the Ifinger for St. Oswald, patron saint of livestock and pastureland, and to make a procession there at the feast of his name. The old chapel remained in its original location for almost 250 years until it gave way to a new building in 1879.

On the 5th of August, the day of St. Oswald, the annual "Oswald Kirchtag" takes place: a prayer tour to the chapel with field mass and the following church day.

Kuhleiten Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Starting from the mountain station on Meran 2000, trail no. 3 leads past the Waidmannalm and climbs steadily up to the little church of St. Oswald (2,200m). Continue on the Oswaldscharte to the Kuhleiten hut on 2,363 vertical meters.

Highlight • Mountain Pass

To the right and left, the path leads into the abyss, but it's wide enough! Impressive

Panorama Trail Merano 2000

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Once up here with the gondola 🚠 Meran2000 arrived, one up here on the mountains 🏔 expects a perfect hiking paradise 😍. Very well-developed hiking trails plus good marking, let every hiker come to his destination. Reward here is the great view in the beautiful nature. The many stops for eating and drinking 🍺 makes this a top destination

Piffinger Köpfl

Highlight • Viewpoint

Unique view of the valley when you have left the cable car. So the "small thaler" is worth it for just these! :-))

Falzeben Cable Car Parking

Highlight • Parking

Paid parking at the end of the road directly at the valley station of the Falzeben cable car.
The tour suggestions listed above are the more popular ones. I recommend a slightly less well-known, leisurely circular tour for hikers who are more interested in nature and looking for solitude.
The circular hike begins at the car park in Hafling/Falzeben (1,609m). From there, marked path no. 14 leads up to the Zuegghütte and further to the Rotwandhütte (1,817m).
Alternatively, you can take the cable car to Piffing and, following path 14, you will reach the "Wieser Schüpfl" after a few minutes. Here, forest path no. 17 branches off to the right, which leads over the Sinichbach to the Maiser Alm (1,783m) and Moschwaldalm (1,760m). After the huts, follow path no. 51 to the right, over the steep slope (which is particularly challenging on the descent) for about 15 minutes, then cross the Sinichbach to return to the starting point in Falzeben.
For a rest stop, I recommend the Maiser Alm, which is somehow more tranquil, natural and welcoming. On the other hand, the view from the nearby Moschwaldalm is more attractive (but therefore more crowded).
