Riepenbach waterfall and bridges

Highlight (Segment) • Waterfall

Not quite as big as the Krimmler waterfalls in Zillertal, but still very impressive. Idyllically many small waterfalls flow down between coniferous forests.

View of Schlegeis Reservoir

Highlight • Viewpoint

Climb difficult, but the view is worth it! You need good shoes with good grip, sneakers (which some Instagram photo-takers wear) don't really work.

A beautiful hike. I wouldn't necessarily recommend taking a dog. It's a very rocky path, and not every dog's paws are made for it. And you're almost always walking in the sun on extremely hot days. The suspension bridge is worth seeing, but you have to wait in line for that "perfect" photo. Highly recommended.

The time specification does not match again - we were on the road for 5 hours

...on the 5th day of the week, I finally headed back to the mountains. This time to the neighboring Alpine republic of Austria, specifically to the Zillertal Valley. The (!) destination was the Schlegeis Reservoir, but primarily the Olperer Hut and its suspension bridge. 😊

A very beautiful route!! You gain the most elevation right at the beginning, up to the Olperer Hut, 580 meters to be exact... But the view makes up for it :) A little tip for everyone: you don't have to go up there with the thickest hiking boots, but at least wear shoes with some tread... you won't even see …

After two days of mountain biking with a few meters of altitude, a hike to the Olperer Hütte was on the agenda today. That should only be about 650 Hhm, so doable 😉. As soon as we started running, the ascent over large stones began. Finally we had reasonable sunshine, but now it burned down again. And it went uphill …

The Schlegeis reservoir is built over a toll road. If you decide to come by car, parking is free.

On the direct ascent to the Olperer Hütte there is a note that it is 1.5 hours from here. It goes uphill all the way, but the path offers many wonderful views of the Schlegeis and the surrounding mountains.

WOW! What a wonderfully beautiful but also challenging hike it was!? 🥺🤩
Rocky, steep, alpine and so, so, so many views - unbelievable! 😍 We are still very inspired and no photo, no video, no comment, nothing can describe what we experienced. 🤯
