Description
If you're looking for an easy, high-payoff nature escape, the Hiking loop from Strawberry Fields Nature Preserve is definitely worth your time. This easy 2.0-mile (3.2 km) hiking route, with a gentle 67 feet (20 metres) of elevation gain, takes only about 50 minutes to complete, making it perfect for a quick, family-friendly outing or a peaceful solo stroll.
What to expect on Hiking loop from Strawberry Fields Nature Preserve
The trail offers a delightful journey through varied landscapes, transitioning smoothly from open fields bursting with wildflowers to dense, shady forests and along hedgerows. You'll find yourself immersed in a haven for biodiversity, with over 300 plant species and more than 100 bird species to spot. Keep an eye out for white-tailed deer, and listen for the roosters from Lovin' Mama Farm, an active organic farm integrated into the preserve. While mostly flat and wide, some low-lying sections can get quite muddy after rain, so choose your footwear accordingly. Along the southern boundary, a designated bench provides a perfect spot to pause and take in the beautiful, expansive views of the Mohawk River Valley.
Planning your visit
The preserve is open from dawn to dusk, and access is free, making it an accessible option for everyone. Leashed dogs are welcome, so feel free to bring your furry friend along. While the trails are well-marked and maps are available online, be prepared for potentially muddy conditions, especially after wet weather. This loop is a fantastic option year-round, suitable for botanists and bird-watchers in any season, and even for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in winter.
