Norwich Castle

Highlight • Castle

Norwich Castle looks very special from the outside. A cube-shaped fortress from the time of the Normans. Today it is a museum that deals with history, but also exhibits works of art.

In addition to visiting a museum, you can also take part in guided tours that show you the most beautiful and exciting corners of the fortress, including the roof, from which you have a breathtaking all-round view of Norwich.

Norwich Castle is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. You can find more information on admission prices, guided tours and exhibitions here: museums.norfolk.gov.uk/norwich-castle

A surprisingly nice area to stop and the Red Lion opposite is a cracking pub for a pint

Norwich Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

Norwich Cathedral dates back to 1096. It is built from cream-coloured limestone, and took over 50 years to complete.

If you have time to visit inside, a 17-metre (56 ft) high helter-skelter has been constructed inside the cathedral, to give a better vantage point for viewing the roof bosses, and a fun way down.

Elm Hill

Highlight • Historical Site

Elm Hill is hailed as the most famous street in Norwich. The quirky cobbled street is lined with Tudor buildings filled with antique shops, galleries, cafes, and delis. One of the most well-known buildings is the Britons Arms, the only building that fully survived a devastating fire in 1507. The street has appeared in many television and film productions, including the 2007 film Stardust and the 2020 film Jingle Jangle.
