St Nicholas' Church, Newport

Highlight • Historical Site

The present Church of St Nicholas is of Norman origin but was lengthened in the 14th century. The Perpendicular style tower was added around 1460 by the Earl of Warwick but he didn't get round to finish the job and top it off with a spire. Being an Earl must be a tad busy I guess!

Note the Route is on the old Trench Road slightly to the right and parallel to the new road - it is well worth using this road when touring since it is a closed to cars in sections, plus you get to see the gate monsters/ lions which are an impressive sight.
The entry from Newport to the section is via a joint footpath and cycle path opposite the Red House Pub - its not very well signposted - what looks like a gap in the hedge is correct way you can see the cycle route sign as you go through it.
