Morgenbachtal Gorge and Waterfalls

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

The Morgenbachtal is closed since 2016 (!) Because of the breaking off path. However, it is quite manageable ..... 😉

You are never alone along the Hasselbach. Out of numerous trees, a curious forest ghost observes. There are over 60, including witches, goblins, elves and trolls, the creek leads past almost all of them. Who can find them all?

Kreuzbach Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The bridge is part of the RheinBurgenWeg from Trechtingshausen to Bingen. It is well maintained and spans a valley of approx. 20 meters deep. The length of the bridge is about 50 meters. A small highlight on the hiking trail.

Rheinstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

The picturesque location of the castle Rheinstein enchanted in 1823 the Prince Frederick of Prussia, who also bought the castle promptly. At that time, the castle was little more than a dilapidated ruin, but after several years of reconstruction, the Prince could move into his domicile. The castle was then built with careful preservation of the medieval fabric to a romanticized residential castle.

This form is preserved to this day and can be visited. The castle now houses a museum and an adjoining restaurant. In addition, the view from the wall and from the towers down to the Rhine Valley is simply picturesque. If you can not get enough of the castle, then you should also look at the accommodation offers.

You can find all information about opening times and entrance fees at burg-rheinstein.de.

View of Reichenstein Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

First documented mention in 1213.
Besieged and destroyed in 1282. Due to a ban on reconstruction, a new castle with a double ring wall and residential tower was not built until after 1344.
The castle was left to decay from the 16th century onwards and was blown up in 1689 during the War of the Palatinate Succession.
The castle was given its current appearance by Baron Nikolaus von Kirsch-Puricelli, a wealthy industrialist and owner of the Rheinböllerhütte, who had a neo-Gothic residential castle in the English style built by the Regensburg architect Strebel from 1899 to 1902. Further residential buildings and an observation tower were built on the site of the outer bailey. Reichenstein was the last castle in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley to be rebuilt in the spirit of Rhine Romanticism.

Today, the complex houses a castle museum with a large collection of historical weapons and armor as well as cast-iron slabs from the Stromberger Neuhütte and the Rheinböllerhütte, a restaurant and, since the end of 2015, a hotel. The living quarters in the castle have been preserved as they were over a hundred years ago. Weddings can still be held in the castle chapel and the old rooms.
