Eilhard Mitscherlich Monument

The Eilhard Mitscherlich monument in Jever is a gift from the Mitscherlich family from 1896 to the city. Eilhard Mitscherlich was born on January 7, 1794 in the parish Neuenende, a present-day district of Wilhelmshaven. Neuenende belonged to the reign of Jever at that time. The Mitscherlich family is a famous German family of chemists, physicians and researchers. The monument was a copper statue. Due to corrosion damage, it was dismantled in the 60s of the 20th century and replaced by a foundling with inscription. After much effort, a Polish artist succeeded in creating a new statue from the still existing head and from several other parts of the statue. This second statue was inaugurated on September 6, 2006 and placed in Jever. The Mitscherlich family and a special supporting group were involved in this.
