The Maternal by Waldemar Grzimek

Highlight • Monument

"When looking at the bronze sculpture" Die Mütterliche "in front of the Niebüller town hall, the unusual posture is noticeable at first glance. In depicting the body, sculptor Waldemar Grzimek has deliberately moved away from the lifelike image. The focus is more on the tension of the body, which The outwardly spread lower legs, the forward leaning upper body and the arms crossed in front of the chest rather follow geometrical and analytical rules. They visually pull the trunk of the woman together and radiate a protective force . The artist did not want to show an ideal woman, but rather to work out special characteristics. The fact that the body appears a little distorted and displaced as a result underlines his intention. " can be read on the page sh-kunst.de/waldemar-grzimek-die-muetterliche

Christ Church, Niebüll

Highlight • Religious Site

The Christ Church in Niebüll is a Protestant church that was built in 1729.
It is located at Kirchenstraße 6, 25899 Niebüll.
The church has an eventful history and has been renovated several times.
The previous church was built in the Gothic style and stood in what is now the Langstoft district until the devastating
storm flood of 1362. The storm flood damage was so severe that the church was demolished and rebuilt in the Gothic style in the dune area of the new Niebüll settlement. Niebüll was first mentioned as a church location in 1436.
The south bridge from 1778 (next to the former sexton's house) - restored in 1925 - has two gates of different sizes, each with three symbols arranged in a cross:
rings, scales and sword as well as cross, heart and anchor. Unfortunately, only sparse reports have survived about the furnishings of the previous churches. Because of its good acoustics, the Christ Church also hosts concerts by national cultural institutions, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Danish
Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra.

Niebüll Water Tower

Highlight • Monument

The old water tower stands prominently at the station, which travelers (to Sylt) can hardly miss. The landmark of Niebüll was built in 1908 according to plans of the Altona Railway Directorate from 1898 in the youth style to supply the steam locomotives with water. In 1972 the steam locomotive era ended in Niebüll and the water tower finally lost its function. It should even be torn down. But thanks to the efforts of the city of Niebüll and the Nordfriesland-Nord district craftsmen's association, the historic building was preserved and refurbished by apprentices as part of their training between 2012 and 2015. Today you can spend the night there for tourists. You can find out more details about the history here: shz.de/lokales/nordfriesland-tageblatt/niebueller-wasserturm-wird-zum-hotel-id17370306.html
