Shenandoah Valley Overlook

Highlight • Viewpoint

From this point, you can enjoy views of the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley. The main highlights include Signal Knob and the town of Front Royal, but on clear days, you might even see part of West Virginia.

This point overlooks to the southeast onto the Piedmont region, Jenkins Mountain, and Keyser Mountain. This area was owned by John Marshall, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1801 to 1835, and thus received its name from him.

Looking west from 3,550 ft (1,082 m) of elevation, this viewpoint offers a great view of 4,050 ft (1,234 m) Hawksbill Peak, the tallest mountain in Shenandoah National Park. You can also see Nakedtop Mountain a little farther away, and the Shenandoah Valley opening up below you.

Old Rag View Overlook

Highlight • Viewpoint

Facing east-northeast, this overlook offers you a nice peek at Old Rag Mountain, one of the most popular summit hikes in Shenandoah National Park. This viewpoint sits at 3,585 feet (1,092 m) in elevation, whereas Old Rag stands 3,291 feet (1,003 m) tall, so you're actually higher than the mountain's summit.

Once used as ranchland, this west-northwest-facing overlook offers nice views of (from left to right) Dovel Mountain, Slaughter Ridge, and Roundhead Ridge. You may also catch a glimpse of the town of Stanley to the right.

Franklin Cliffs Overlook

This viewpoint sits at 3,140 ft (957 m) elevation and looks right down a hollow toward the town of Stanley. Another community, Luray, is to the right of Stanley but mostly hidden by a ridge. You'll also see Blackrock Summit in the near distance to your left, and Roundhead Ridge a bit behind and to the right of it.
