2nd Lt. Rishi Malhotra was born on 13th December 1971 at Bharatpur, Rajasthan. He did his schooling from Loyala High School, Pune.
In class 12, Rishi was selected under the Rotary Youth Exchange Program and spent one year at Upper Dublin High School, Philadelphia. He later returned to Pune to do his BSc (Chemistry) degree from Fergusson College. He graduated from Fergusson College in 1992.
Rishi joined the IMA (Indian Military Academy) in July 1992. He passed out of out IMA in December 1993 and was commissioned into the 8th Maratha Light Infantry of the Indian Army.
Rishi had been in the army for only four months when on 20th May 1994, he was martyred during a counter insurgency operation in Doda district of J&K. Even though grievously injured, Rishi was able to eliminate two terrorists before breathing his last. He was only 23 years of age.
For his conspicuous act of gallantry, Rishi was awarded the Kirti Chakra (KC), posthumously on 21st March 1995.

The Aundh Chest Hospital is a Government Hospital created in the Western Suburbs of Pune. The hospital was established in 1945 as Indo British General Hospital at Aundh in Pune. It was raised after the Second World War, as a hospital for Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases. The Hospital was for a period designated as a Military Hospital in 1946. Initially, it was a 540-bed hospital. In 1967 an additional 60 beds were added for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, making it a 600 bedded hospital. The Armed Forces Medical Corp later set up a dedicated Cardio-Thoracic Facility closer to the Armed Forces Medical College in Wanoarie and the Hospital reverted to its role as a General Hospital.

In the 1990s the Hospital was taken over by the Employee state insurance corporation for treating patients registered into the ESIC scheme.
