The start of the Col du Coq

Highlight • Other

The Col du Coq is little traffic, very quiet in terms of traffic.

Nice rolling descent to Saint-Nazaire-les-Eymes.

A small mountain road with little traffic, the Route du Col du Coq offers numerous views of the Dent de Crolles, the Plateau des Petites Roches, and the Chaîne de Belledonne opposite.

Road pass not cleared of snow, you have to count on natural snow removal at the start of the season.

On the other hand, oriented S, it is very pleasant in the fall.

Col du Coq

Highlight • Mountain Pass

- Don't be surprised: I created the highlight because the previous highlight was in the wrong place (not on the "real pass") -
The Col du Coq is the highest pass in the Chartreuse. From the north / west (St. Pierre) the road is in really bad condition (08/2020), there are some sections for which a gravel bike would be more suitable. Unfortunately, the worst part is also at the steepest (over 15%) point. The ascent from the north / west (I only drove this side) has two longer steep sections, but is otherwise easy to do. You shouldn't be surprised that shortly before the summit it goes downhill for a relatively long time, only to then climb again well. On the east side, you can either descend right into the valley (but be careful: very long, completely unlit tunnel on the descent !!) or to the left to the Petites Roches.

Saint-Hugues-de-Chartreuse

Charming small village with 2 restaurants. One of them is a hot spot for paragliders. The paragliding landing field is just next to the village center.

Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse is nestled at the foot of Chamechaude, the highest point in the Chartreuse region at 2,082 meters above sea level. Peaceful and authentic, the village offers a wide range of sports activities, including summer and winter activities.

Vence Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

One of the most accessible passes from Grenoble. There are three possible access points: via the Col de Porte road (very busy, you constantly smell diesel...), via the Clémencières road (much quieter, a must), or via the small roads between La Tronche and Correnc, which lead directly to the pass via a final, abominably steep ramp.

September 25, 2022,Triplette du dimanche soir après la pluie !
Pfff, the climb to the Col du Coq was tough... It's still just as beautiful but to be done in the morning, not on a Sunday evening after all the good weekend meals!
Otherwise, a great scare in the first bend on the descent after the Col de Porte: probably the film of diesel after the rain which made me …

Departure at the end of the day to stay "cool" (over 30°C! 🥵)! The start of the circuit is scorching hot, a puncture on the first climb forces me to take a break, but it's ultimately not unwelcome...
The climb up the Col du Coq via the Saint-Hugues side is still as tough as ever...
But the circuit is still …

Bike restau bike session 2.
Rise at the tempo to Le Touvet, then restaurant opposite Belledonne and return to Gre via the Col du Coq and Porte.
I don't know if it's the beer, the fondant, the rice or the 2 hour break at the restaurant, but the second part of the col du coq was rather easy.
The Col …
