The church is so small and cute, fits in the little village!

Hamwarde Village Pond

Highlight • Lake

The village pond in Hamwarde is an idyllic spot for a rest right by the path, with a small, somewhat hidden bench. There's even a shelter for rainy days, although it's actually meant for the utility boxes! In any case, there's plenty of room to take cover.

Hamwarde Village Center

Highlight • Settlement

The first documented mention of Honwarde was in 1230
in the Ratzeburg tithe register. The name is of Saxon origin.
Hamwarde's coat of arms is divided diagonally to the left in gold and green.

At the top, a red windmill grows at the division, and at the bottom, a golden horse's head facing right. The mill and horse's head represent Hamwarde's agricultural character. Until 1950, a mill stood on a hill within the municipality.

Gut Gülzow Gate and Estate Wall

Highlight • Monument

The Gülzow estate - popularly known as Gülzow Castle - was owned for centuries by the Schack noble family, from which the Danish field marshal Hans Schack emerged. The Schloßstraße in Gülzow leads along the estate, which is protected here by a long "castle wall".
1654 Gut Gülzow was Bonaventure III. sold by Bodeck. The Bodeck family owned the estate until 1739. During this period, wine was grown in Gülzow, as well as in other places in Lauenburg. This is substantiated by entries about vintners in Gülzow church books from 1684 to 1725. B. 1686 "September 13th the wine gardener and bird catcher copulated here on the estate Jürgen Ölenschläger from Frankfurt and Anna Sophia Pröschen von Schwarzenbek Kochin all here on the estate in our Gülzau church".
In 1739 Georg Ludwig von Kielmansegg acquired the estate from the Bodeck family; the Counts of Kielmansegg remained owners of the estate until 1930. Since then, the estate has been owned by the Fischer family of merchants from Hamburg.

Kämpenweg

Highlight • Cycleway

Initially straight, easy to drive and asphalted through nature between Brunstorf and Dassendorf. In between there is a short stretch of sand, but you can also drive well.
