Saint Ulrich Church

Highlight • Other

The Catholic and Protestant churches of the village were considerably damaged at the end of the Second World War by the American bombardments. Only the walls of the Temple remain and the Catholic Church is 75% destroyed.
A provisional church is erected near the old Catholic church for parishioners of this denomination.
The final building stands on the site of the devastated church and the first stone was laid on December 18, 1960. In 1964, at the end of the work, the stained-glass windows, made thanks to donations from the faithful, were laid by the Werlé house, from Haguenau. They represent among others, Saint-Ulrich, Saint-Arbogast, Saint-Joseph, Saint-Léon IX, Sainte-Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Saint-Georges Church

Highlight • Religious Site

A church is mentioned in the 16th century. Having become too small, it was rebuilt in 1786. The building was significantly enlarged: 58 meters long, a tower of 60 meters, the surface of the nave is 737 m2, and that of the stands of 122 m2. The relics of Saint-Lucius are the object of pilgrimage there.
Destroyed during the bombings of January 1945, the sanctuary was rebuilt on the same site, between 1961 and 1965, by the architect Henri Walker, the stained glass windows are by the master glassmaker Atelier Ott Frères. The central stained-glass window on each side of the nave represents one Notre-Dame du Rosaire, the other Saint-Georges.
The organ is the work of R. Schwartz, from Strasbourg.

Immaculate Conception Church

Highlight • Other

The Catholic parishioners of the village have never had a place of worship. They must go to the services of the church of Stundwiller.
After its destruction in 1945, a temporary barracks was built in Oberroedern and consecrated on September 22, 1945. It contained the small bell of the town hall-school, withdrawn from the Nazi raid.
In 1962-1963, the current building was built with the war damage money reserved for Stundwiller, part of which was retroceded for this purpose.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church

Highlight • Other

Saint-Joseph de Leiterswiller Catholic Church, built in the 16th century and rebuilt in 1736 in pink sandstone, in the neo-Gothic style. The church includes a bas-relief of the Holy Family as well as statues of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne teaching the Virgin to read. Inside are two 18th century statues which represent the Archangel Saint Michael and the Immaculate Conception, which would have been repatriated from the old Cistercian abbey of Koenigsbrück destroyed during the Revolution.
