Le Pâtis

Highlight • Other

This beautiful park with the historic fountain, which was closed in 2023 due to dilapidation, is also an arboraetum. Many different, very old trees are around here. Among other things, of course, a sequoia.

The Mühlengasse is a nice walking connection from the park with the train station there to the old town. A scenic view of the Mill Canal is included.

Tonnerre Lock

Highlight • Other

One of the two manual locks for the Canal de Bourgogne in Tonnerre. The old lock house is used privately. A hand ram is also on display here. The northern path by the canal is not used as much as the southern cycle path and also has shade in the mornings.

Old Armançon Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

From the old stone bridge there is of course a beautiful view of the Armançon River. And a first look at the old town.

Hôtel-Dieu de Tonnerre

Highlight • Historical Site

The Hôtel-Dieu in Tonnerre is a medieval hospital. The building has been protected as a monument historique since 1862.
The Hôtel-Dieu was donated by Margaret of Burgundy and built from 1293 to 1295. The facility, known as the Hôpital Notre-Dame des Fontenilles, had space for 40 patients, although significantly more people were later accommodated. Marguerite de Bourgogne had a residential wing built next to it, called Le château (the castle), where she herself lived as a widow. Her body was buried in the chapel of the Hôtel-Dieu in 1308.
