Loch Lyon to Bridge of Orchy Mountain Pass

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Rocky but beautiful mountain pass connecting Loch Lyon (and later Glen Lyon) to the Bridge of Orchy valley, where you can leave or enter the West Highland Way leading bypass the beautiful Glencoe.

The road is certainly passable for mountain bikes and touring bikes with wider tires. Beware of some small creeks to pass and the occasional loose rocks. Start or finish of the road by riding towards the old railway bridge.

North Shore Trail, Loch Lyon

Highlight • Trail

This doubletrack trail along the northern shores of Loch Lyon is a real treat, you just need to look at the photos to see that!

The way is mostly rideable on a gravel bike or mountain bike and is pretty flat, so you can take your time to admire the incredible views down the valley with the blue water surrounded by great rising shapes of the hillsides.

Serves Glen Lyon coffee, fresh sandwiches and soup. There is also a shop, so lots of snacks to stock up on. Take cash with you on your ride or alternatively you can withdraw cash from the post office here.

Kirk Pass

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

This gravel road crosses the mountains between Loch Rannoch in the north and Glen Lyon in the south.

Ride easy gravel for most parts, but as it is Scotland, there are always those boggy parts and loose rocks here and there.

It's a beautiful stretch of off-road cycling though, great views and diverse landscapes from forests to wide open views.

Kingshouse Hotel

Highlight • Restaurant

A hotel has stood on this spot since the 1800s when it was built and named by the British. Sitting in incredible surroundings, it provides a stark contrast to the wilderness.

If you head a little north over the river, you'll find a beautiful wild camping spot with room for 6-10 tents and fresh running water.

West Highland Way

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Rocky and bumpy path. Only few loose rocks, but the way this 'road' is paved makes it bumpy for riding your bike.

Still a beautiful stretch of off-road to ride your bike on and a great way (the only way even) to reach the beautiful Glen Coe with your bike when you want to avoid the main car road.

Bridge of Orchy

Highlight • Bridge

A beautiful old bridge leads over the River Orchy and gives the small town its name.
