There's not a lot of open or clear views upon Loch Ness when hiking or riding the Great Glen Way, as there's a lot of forest there. So when now and then there is a view like this one, it's worth stopping and enjoying!

Stone Shelter Viewpoint Over Loch Ness

Highlight • Natural Monument

Beautiful view on one of the highest points of this mountain path. The little platform with stone wall provides for a nice place to pitch a small tent. Prepare for a windy night though, as the wall only covers one side of the open space.

Highlight • Structure

Great viewing point with the Viewcatcher to accentuate this. The statue is made for us to stop for a moment and take in the beautiful views... worth stoping at for a moment and do exactly that.

Achnaconeran Road with View of Loch Ness

This quiet tarmac road connects Invermoriston to the tracks which run parallel to the Great Glen and into the moorland NW of the village. Invermoriston is situated at the meeting point of the River Moriston and Loch Ness, where Thomas Telford built a beautiful bridge in the early 19th Century for the main road.

Thomas Telford Bridge over the River Moriston

Highlight • Bridge

Invermoriston’s Thomas Telford bridge makes a spectacular crossing over the River Moriston falls. Nestled amidst a breathtakingly-beautiful landscape, the bridge is a much-loved spot and is a great place to watch salmon leaping upstream. Built in 1813, the bridge was part of the main road between Drumnadrochit and Fort Augustus until a new bridge was built to replace it in the 1930s.

Gravel Descent Between Invermoriston and Fort Augustus

This is on the high route between Invermoriston and Fort Augustus heading Inverness to Fort William. It's a mighty push up out of Invermoriston but it's short and steep and once you're up the riding is fantastic. Fast gravel trails, with wee jumps and sweeping corners - it's as if it's been designed by a mountain biker!
